The wine world is not going through its brightest, most expansive, or most promising era. Instead, we are seeing an unusual surge of criticism and self-criticism among industry stakeholders. This, of course, is a good sign\u2014it shows that the sector is mobilizing to heal itself. <\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>

Among these debates, one stands out: the idea that the wine industry almost forces consumers to \u201clearn\u201d wine, and that this demand actually drives some people away from it. It is an interesting argument. A vast majority of wine drinkers avoid expressing opinions about wine, believing they are not \u201cqualified\u201d to do so. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some among them decide to bridge this gap: they pursue education, join tastings, and travel to vineyards and wineries. But this path is chosen by only a small minority. The rest simply keep drinking in silence, without venturing to share their thoughts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

From our own experience at WAYANA, we don\u2019t believe this \u201cwine must be studied\u201d perception plays as big a role in declining consumption as some suggest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guests at our tastings and educational events show that wine is, above all, a shared experience\u2014a drink that enlivens the table, lifts the spirit of the group, and plays many social roles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yet for the true enthusiast, wine is also a lifelong pursuit. The more you learn, the more you realize how much more there is to discover. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
