Being the “Choose the Wine” Person at the Table

If the place to go for a group meal is a tavern, it usually takes time to choose appetizers and dishes. Because there is no debate about whether the drink is raki. It is highly unlikely that a request for a non-standard raki will come from among the participants, so the conversation of the night begins quickly. The alcohol rate of raki is known, and after a short while, the standard protection walls of those who share the table with this side begin to soften, voices rise, and what is wanted to be told and shared is expressed more quickly. This must be what was meant by "sitting on rakı" anyway.

If the place to go for a group meal is a restaurant with a wine menu, the pre-dinner selection process shows a different flow. A significant part of the people at the table prefer a way that can be summarized as "You choose the wine, brother", thinking that it is more appropriate to hand over the wine selection to someone else. In this way, they announce in advance that they are indifferent to the wine to be drunk and that they are not responsible if the result is not good. The remainder of the wine selection auction at the table is unlikely to have enough information to make that selection. In this case, the best course of action would be to seek the guidance of the restaurant staff responsible for the service or the sommelier, if any.

In a less common scenario, someone at the table has a clear advantage over wine. Now, according to his nature, he reveals his position by exchanging ideas with the sommelier or by making the choice himself. If he really has enough knowledge of wine to do justice to his subject, a good experience begins for both him and his table mates.

You know WAYANA, our wine house in Moda. One of WAYANA's goals is to ensure that you are the one choosing the wine at the table. To support you in creating your own personal wine portfolio by making your wine discoveries every time you visit us, and to bring you to a level where you can guide you with peace of mind over time.

We will talk at length in the articles that follow our roadmap on this subject.
