Our first encounter with the Kösetevek grape was with the Okuzgozu-Kosetevek blend produced by Kuzeybag Winery. To be honest, it was not possible to distinguish how the Kosetevek grape in the blend contributed to the blend. Our first impression was like a variation of Okuzgozu wine.
We did not see this blend in the following years, but Kuzeybag helped us getting to know the grape and wine directly with its single-variety Kosetevek wine, and we are very glad that they did. Let's look at it from the grape perspective first. According to the measurements, the grain structure is slightly smaller and slightly lighter compared to Okuzgozu grapes. The flesh inside the grape skin is also colorful. The number of pips is limited to 1-2.
We were actually very happy that one of the family members of Kuzeybağ Winery, who introduced the Kosetevek grape to us for the first time, chose this grape as her master's thesis. What could be better than meeting wine lovers with a production process that follows scientific foundations and technological developments in wine production?
After couple of years since we added Kuzeybag Kosetevek wine to WAYANA Wine Menu, Diren Wines showed up with a new Kosetevek wine. Diren is a group devoted to wine production with its vineyards and facilities in Tokat. The group, which includes a rich variety in its production, shared the information that it supplies Kosetevek grapes from the Elazig region, that is, it uses grapes grown in original terroir.
It is very important for us that the same grapes are processed by more than one producer. Wine is the common product of a triangular structure that we always underline: grape type – terroir – oenologist. Each element in this trio creates structural changes in the wine. When we taste the wines made by two different wine experts with grapes from the same vineyard, we see how the wine differs with the touches of those skillful hands.
Kuzeybag and Diren Koseteveks also differ from each other with their different characters and are located in different places. While Kuzeybag invites us to drink one after another with pleasure, we sense a slightly heavier atmosphere in the Diren sample, closer to accompanying the meal. Both are beautiful and different examples.
We are now waiting for the surprises what other wineries will make with Kosetevek grapes. With its fruity identity and dark burgundy color wines, we are very eager to try them and include in the WAYANA Wine Menu.
