When we made WAYANA's business plan, we also included the title of wine tastings. When we left behind the first 45 days we spent as a warm-up tour and completed our deficiencies, we started working on wine tasting events.

We take wine tasting very seriously. Our country is just beginning to use the advantages that geography bestows on wine. The inhabitants of this land, who consumed wine for centuries, left the production to non-Muslim subjects during the Ottoman period. After the establishment of the Republic, wine production began in a planned manner through TEKEL and continued until its privatization. But the republic also had a devastating effect on wine. The migration of Muslim and Christian populations, which we call the exchange, between Turkey and Greece, has led to the disappearance of wine know-how that has accumulated over generations. With the settlement of immigrants who do not know the vineyard, the vine and the wine, the vineyards were condemned to an activity that grows table grapes and with this aspect the lowest added value.

We see that the alienation process from this wine has changed in the last forty years. Despite all the difficulties, we are excited to see that the wines produced by the wine-loving producers have earned a high place in international competitions. When we come to the wine-lover part of this long journey, we think that we have an opportunity and a duty to both sustain our existence and increase the number of consumers who know wine: to share our knowledge with wine lovers who want to get to know wine better.

Our country is home to many wine regions. While WAYANA was planning wine tasting events, one of the titles spontaneously came to the fore as wine regions. “Vineyard Route Tours” attended by wine enthusiasts became our guide as well. In fact, at WAYANA Wine Bar in Kadıköy Moda, our guests will almost go on a wine journey where they sit. We planned our first event as BOZCAADA Wine Tasting.

Bozcaada's unique climate and soil enabled four endemic grapes to appear on the island. We held our first tasting in two sessions on Sunday, October 9, 2022, with ten wines from four Bozcaada producers that we included in the WAYANA menu. We got to know, taste and interpret wines with a total of 22 guests and we all chose our own favourites. We remembered and applied what we needed to know to know wine. As hosts, we were tired, but we also had the pleasure of doing a good job.

Our next tasting is the Thrace Vineyard Route. On Sunday, October 23, 2022, we will do the tasting with one wine from eight producers, and we share the ticket link below. We welcome curious wine lovers.
