We Did the Wine Tasting of the Northern Aegean-İzmir-Manisa Vineyard Route.
On Sunday, January 8, we held the seventh of WAYANA's eight-stage tasting events under the title of Turkey Vineyard Routes Wine Tasting. In this tasting, which was watched with interest by wine-loving friends, we tasted and got to know a wine that we chose from eight producers and from each producer in Balıkesir, İzmir and Manisa.
We started our tasting with Solaris white wine from Nif Vineyards. The fact that the grape from which the wine was made was obtained by scientific means and cross-fertilization excited the participants. The next white wine was Gewürztraminer, a cold-climate grape produced by the Burnt Country. We talked about the differences created by growing grapes in a temperate climate. The last of the white wines was Lucien Arkas winery produced from the Viognier grape. Thus, the participants got to know and evaluate a trio of white wines with different body structures.
In the fourth place, we featured Selendi's rose wine called Gülpembe. We completed the first half of the tasting with Gülpembe, which is obtained by blending the wines of four grapes.
In the second part, we examined four red wines. At the first stop of the journey, we discussed Paşaeli's Karasakız-Merlot blending named 6N. This wine, which stood out in the 2022 Sommelier's Selection evaluation, was followed by Ma'adra's Merlot. After this producer, whose vineyards are close to the border of the Aegean and Marmara regions, we went south and got to know and tasted Sobran Vineyards with their wines made from Nebbiolo grapes they produce in their vineyards in Alaşehir. Our last red wine was a maroon blend produced by Kastro Tireli located in the Akhisar region: Karkaia.
Our guests reviewed the notes they took in the Tasting Booklets we prepared for each event and shared the white and red wines that suit their taste. We ended our event with the selection of favorite wines.
Our next event will be the last event of this series: Southern Aegean-Mediterranean Region Vineyard Route Wine Tasting. For those who are curious, we share the link:
